Short Bio

Jordan Delaine Brady is a visual artist based out of Philadelphia, Pa.

Statement

As a multidisciplinary artist, my creations speak of resilience and duality. My work, rooted in abstraction and surrealism, is enriched by life's cycles and patterns of chronic illness. The vibrant palette I employ contrasts with the quiet minimalism of living with a rare condition, each piece charged with emotion, rhythm, and movement—in dichotomy to a reality that often demands stillness. Each mark is intentional, reflecting the deliberate nature of my existence. Imperfections are embraced, mirroring the human experience and the art-making journey. This dance of intent and intuition welcomes flaws and opens a dialogue between personal experiences and viewer interpretation. Inspired by the enduring spirit of humanity, my emotional state propels my work, fostering communication through line, color, and form. Chronic illness profoundly shapes my art, serving as both challenge and muse. My condition influences my technique and the physicality of my process. Adaptations have led to  methods that embrace spontaneity by directly applying ink to paper. Ultimately, my art serves as a vessel for human connection, aiming to reach and amplify marginalized voices. I hope my work resonates with others facing similar struggles, offering solace, awareness, and shedding light on the unseen.

Biography

Jordan Delaine, was born in Redlands, California, but their artistic journey began in the vibrant cultural tapestry of McAllen, Texas. This bordertown, with its unique blend of two countries, became Delaine's home when they were five years old. It was here, amongst the rich, intertwined cultures, that the seeds of creativity were sown early on, nourishing a lifelong desire to become an artist. They now reside in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, alongside their spouse.

Delaine's artistic path was clear from a young age, unfettered by familial ties to the arts, yet deeply rooted in personal passion. From the introduction to watercolor and calligraphy in grade school to an eventual bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in metalsmithing from the University of Texas Pan American.

The pursuit of creativity took on many forms for Delaine. Experiences in a giclée print shop, a metalsmithing studio, a stained glass shop, and managing a frame shop all contributed to their diverse skill set. Despite the necessity to retire from metalsmithing due to a health condition, Delaine found rejuvenation in painting and 2D mediums, reawakening a fervent passion for visual storytelling.

Delaine's art is a blend of personal narrative and psychological exploration, inspired by the complexities of human nature and the dualities found within oneself. Living with a rare genetic disorder, Delaine creates from a place of profound personal insight, offering a raw and intimate portrayal of life with a disability. This muse—intrinsically tied to their lived experience—permeates every piece with authenticity and depth.

In their creative process, emotion and intuition reign supreme. Delaine’s technique, molded by physical limitations, celebrates minimalism without sacrificing impact. Each work is a testament to the beauty of imperfection, an acknowledgment that both life and art are inherently flawed yet breathtakingly beautiful.

Major influences such as Tina Burning, Frida Kahlo, and Leonora Carrington echo in Delaine’s work, yet they bring their own unique perspective—a rich mosaic crafted through years of technique and meticulous line work. Jordan Delaine’s art has graced group shows across various states, including Texas, California, New York, and Pennsylvania.

Though awards have come—such as honorable mentions—the true essence of Delaine’s work lies in its ability to evoke, communicate, and connect. Their art is not just a window into a personal narrative but also a clarion call to societal awareness for a rare disease that mostly affects women and is dismissed by most medical professionals. Delaine aspires to illuminate what it means to live with an incurable disability, to give voice to the often overlooked or forgotten, and to shift perspectives on the roles we play within our societal structures.
